What data we collect
When you use Study Abroad Network, we may collect: your email address, name, country of residence, student status, destination and field of interest, program preferences, and any testimonial content you choose to share. We collect analytics data such as page views and click events only with your consent.
How we use your data
We use your data to power AI program matching, display verified testimonials, improve platform features through analytics, and — only with your explicit consent — share your contact information with partners when you claim an offer through our affiliate system. We never sell your data to advertisers or third-party data brokers.
How your data is stored
Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Account passwords are never stored in plain text — we use PBKDF2 key derivation with a per-user salt for secure password hashing. All data is processed on Cloudflare's global edge network and stored in Cloudflare D1 (SQLite-based database). We do not share your data with partners unless you explicitly claim an offer and consent to sharing.
Whether we share data with partners
We do not share your personal data with any university, agency, or service provider unless you explicitly click "Claim offer" on an affiliate deal and check the consent box. In that case, we share only your name, email, country, and student status with that specific partner. We never share your data with advertisers or data brokers under any circumstances.
Your rights (GDPR)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your personal data. You may also object to certain types of processing and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@studyabroad.network.
How to request data deletion
You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing privacy@studyabroad.network with the subject line "Data Deletion Request." We will process your request within 30 days and confirm when your data has been permanently removed. You do not need to provide a reason for deletion.
Data retention
Testimonials are retained until you withdraw them. Affiliate claims are retained for 2 years for partner reconciliation purposes. Account and authentication data are retained until account deletion. Analytics events are retained for 12 months and then automatically purged.
Third parties
Your data is processed by the following third-party service providers: Cloudflare (web hosting and CDN), Cloudflare D1 (database storage), and Stripe (payment processing, when configured). Each provider operates under their own privacy policies and GDPR-compliant data processing agreements. We do not share your data with advertisers.
Cookies
We use three categories of cookies: Essential cookies are required for the site to function (session state, theme preference) and cannot be disabled. Analytics cookies track page views and user interactions to help us improve — these are optional and require your consent. Preference cookies remember your settings (language, theme) — also optional. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the banner at the bottom of the page.
